What is the Weather Like in Cambodia in March?

March marks the dry season in Cambodia, providing clear skies and hot weather.  With minimal chances of rain, March is ideal for photography, particularly during the early mornings when the iconic Angkor Wat glows under the soft light of sunrise. The northern city of Siem Reap experiences an average temperature of 30°C (86°F), with afternoon highs reaching a scorching 34°C (93°F). 

Evenings provide little respite as temperatures drop slightly to 25°C (77°F). That's why you will appreciate having air conditioning at your accommodations after a day of exploration. Further south, in the coastal region of Sihanoukville or Koh Rong, temperatures mirror those of Siem Reap, but slightly cooler with daytime highs around 32°C (90°F) and nighttime lows of 26°C (79°F).

In fact, we and other travellers can confirm that the heat can be intense but manageable with proper preparation, such as cooling towels, hydration, or planning excursions during the early morning or late afternoon can make a significant difference. And if you come from cooler climates, such as the UK or Canada, it might be challenging but rewarding to experience the beauty of the country.

Top Places to Visit in Cambodia in March

• Angkor Wat and Siem Reap

During the month of March, I often advise our tourists to start their trip with Angkor Wat. The smooth weather and warm temperature give you the chance to be among the most beautiful temples in the world, such as Angkor Wat and the motherly Ta Prohm, which is covered with jungle.

If you come to this place in March, you are sure to enjoy the landscape that has been touched by the gold light. Siem Reap is on the top list with so much vibrancy and diverse cultures and its worth it for you to discover its historical journey by visiting well-being restaurants in Siem Reap. Be sure not to miss this opportunity in March. It is the memory of you walking through time reasons that it will be with you forever.

Keep in mind, however, that March is peak season in Cambodia, and the Angkor Complex can get quite crowded. To enjoy a more serene experience, it’s best to visit early in the morning.

Sihanoukville, a coastal town in southwestern Cambodia, is considered as a favorite vacation destination in March; thanks to the warm climate and fewer visitors compared to the peak holiday months. Widely reputed for its enchanting beaches of which Serendipity Beach, with its bustling entertainment and nightlife, and Otres Beach, boasting a serene atmosphere, are representative examples, the town provides a possibility of relaxation along with adventurous activities for its visitors.

You can savor the delicious seafood, turquoise waters, and a wide range of activities, for example, kayaking and paddleboarding, which means you are going to have an absolutely stunning time.

• Kampot

Kampot, a peaceful town in southwest Cambodia, is a perfect destination to visit in March, with its warm and dry weather ideal for exploring its natural and cultural treasures. Known for its world-famous Kampot pepper plantations, this charming town offers a blend of local culture, French colonial architecture, and scenic landscapes.

Visitors can enjoy a serene atmosphere while discovering the unique Secret Lake, the historic Bokor Plateau with its abandoned French-era buildings, and lush trails in Bokor National Park.

For those venturing off the beaten path, Ratanakiri is a must-visit for jungle trekking and swimming in a volcanic crater lake. This makes it an ideal time to explore this remarkable site, including the majestic seven-tiered pyramid, Prasat Thom, along with other architectural masterpieces.

Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Koh Ker stands as a serene and historically significant destination, showcasing Cambodia's rich cultural heritage. It is a must-visit for travelers seeking a unique and tranquil experience away from the usual tourist pathways.

Can I visit neighboring countries along with Cambodia in March?

Cambodia shares borders with Vietnam and Thailand, plus a land border with Laos, making both road and air travel easy.

Combining a trip to Cambodia and Vietnam is an interesting option; both countries are very rich in varied landscapes and culture, and in March, the weather is favorable.

• Dress Modestly: Cover shoulders and knees, especially at temples or formal settings. Avoid revealing clothes and religious-themed T-shirts.
• Haggle Politely: Negotiate prices respectfully, allowing sellers to save face.
• Bring Small USD Bills: Use $1, $5, and $10 denominations as larger bills may be harder to use in smaller towns.

• Touch Monks or Their Heads: Women must never touch monks or hand them items. Avoid touching anyone's head.
• Flaunt Being American: Avoid sensitive topics like war or politics and show cultural humility.
• Dress Skimpy: Shorts and T-shirts are fine, but avoid tight or revealing clothing.
• Show Public Affection: Holding hands is okay, but avoid intimate gestures.
• Fall for Scams: You should politely decline requests for formula or donations to floating villages.

Our Additional Tips:

• Transport: Renting a scooter is an affordable way to explore towns like Kampot and Kep. Tuk-tuks in cities usually cost $1–2 for short rides.
• Safety: Keep your wallet in your front pocket, avoid walking alone at night, and watch out for pickpockets, especially groups of children.
