  • The Royal Palace - place of residence and work of the Norodom kings since 1870; the Silver Pagoda - one of the most original pagodas in the country with its floor entirely paved with silver slabs, donated by the French King Napoleon III, the National Museum (rich in statues from Angkor).
  • The Toulsleng Genocide Museum - the school converted into a prison where thousands of Cambodian women were detained and tortured under the Khmer Rouge regime.
  • Wat Unalom, the oldest Buddhist foundation in the city, probably predates the abandonment of the capital at Angkor in the 15th century. The date of foundation is variously cited as 1422 and 1443. This Wat is the house of the Buddhist patriarch, strolling in the Central Market (Art-Deco style).
  • Wat Phnom - symbol of the city. Located on one of the few hills in the capital, the first pagoda was originally built in 1373 to house Buddha statues discovered on the Mekong River by a woman named Penh.
