The Full Moon Festival takes place every month on Haad Rin Beach, Koh Phangan, a beautiful island in the Gulf of Thailand, about 500 km from Bangkok. The party occurs on the night of the full moon, hence the name "Full Moon Party."
According to various sources, Paradise Bungalows organized the first Full Moon Party on Haad Rin Beach in 1988 as a thank-you event for 25 guests. Initially a small beach gathering, it quickly grew through word-of-mouth. Somchai, a local, recalls, "It was just a fun night with friends; we never imagined it would become this big."

Two people stand at either end of a 10-meter gasoline-soaked rope that has been set on fire and swinging on the bustling beach. In order to stay in time as long as possible, groups of four to five people alternately jump the burning rope. The group moves out to make room for the next if someone trips or gets touched by the rope.

Therefore, it is recommended to contact the hotel in advance for assistance in booking a taxi or other transportation to the hotel.
Scooters: The most popular choice for independent travelers. Rentals are affordable, with mopeds like the Honda Dream and Yamaha Mio costing 150 baht - 250 baht per day.
The daily cost of dirt bikes for harsher routes ranges from Bt200 to Bt350. Wear a helmet and inspect the bike before renting it. To get quickly between Haad Rin, the location of the celebration, and nearby sights, rent a scooter.

5. Full Moon Party Map!! Guide to all parties!
Koh Phangan is famous for its legendary Full Moon Party and buzzing nightlife. This map pinpoints the island’s top party spots and events, so you won’t miss a beat, even if it’s your first time on the island.
6. What to Prepare Before the Party?
6.1 Tips
Protect your feet: Wear closed-toe shoes to avoid broken glass.
Valuables: Bring only cash, ID, and a passport copy. Leave valuables at your accommodation.
Drugs: Avoid drugs at all costs. Thai drug laws are strict and enforced. When caught, you may end up being forced to pay 3.000 USD to the authorities.
Transportation: Take a taxi if you're staying outside Haad Rin. Roads are dangerous, and police checks are frequent.
Buddy system: Stay with friends and have a plan in case you get separated.
Avoid swimming: The sea is not sanitary.
Drinking: Buy only sealed drinks from reputable vendors. Drink water to stay hydrated.
6.2 Accommodation
On the island, you will find various accommodation options. Being near the main beach of Haadrin, where the festival takes place, will make getting around easier. Nearby hotels are convenient if you plan to stay late, although more expensive and noisy due to proximity to the festival and loud noises.
March Full Moon Party attracts 15,000 to Haad Rin Beach
For a festive but more peaceful stay, opt for other sides of the island. Although quieter and more economical, be sure to plan for transportation back to the hotel after the festival.
Haadrin Beach is no more than 30 minutes from anywhere on the island. During Full Moon Parties, expect higher demand and rising prices.
6.3 Clothes
This festival has no obligatory clothing requirements, you can dress freely according to your preferences. However, it is recommended that you wear shoes, as the festival can be very crowded, and other people may accidentally step on your feet. Dancing strongly with unprotected feet can be painful, so shoes are recommended to ensure your comfort and mobility.
Festival participants often sport exceptional reflective and sparkling clothing, perfectly suited to full moon nights. If you already have such items, do not hesitate to bring them. Otherwise, you can buy them there.

It is also important to note that many people use pigments or UV paint to decorate their bodies during the festival. These colors can stain your clothes, so make sure you wear something you won't regret if that happens.
