On December 17th, Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced the extension of operating hours until 4am for restaurants, bars and nightclubs in Bangkok and other tourist hotspots like Phuket, Chon Buri, Chiang Mai and the island of Koh Samui.

This decision follows an inspection of nightlife establishments showing that the industry is complying with new regulations.

The new rules which came into effect on December 15th apply to nightlife venues in Bangkok, Phuket, Chonburi, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui and hotel bars across the country.

While restaurants can now remain open until 4am, alcohol sales are still prohibited after midnight unless a special permit has been obtained.
